May the year bring you many blessings!

First Companion Tips

So, you adopted your first companion, Congratulations! It is time to celebrate! But first, are you prepared? Yes, having your first family member can be a dream come true, but you have to remember you are now responsible for another person. Do you have wards? Housing? Food? All this should be taken into account. However, do not fret if you adopted a companion first, just get started with these basics as soon as you can!

Warding: Like the lock to a door or a home security system, wards are made for your protection. There are a variety of wards that you will want to layer your home with, layering is important much like how you would not leave your door unlocked but alarm on, the more wards the better. These wards should protect your physical space as well as your Astral Space. Protection for you and your companions is necessary!
Speaking of Astral, what does your Astral home look like? While others can add on to your Astral home, your home is passed down from life to life of your soul. This home is where your spirit companions reside. So maybe this space is not furnished. That is ok, it is just time to furnish it.
Astral home: Some Astrals retain buildings from the lives previously while others start over as a blank slate. Either is fine, you just need to invite your companion to create their home. Some companions will build their homes with their own hands, like a project while others will use energy to construct it almost in a blink of the eye. The Astral is not physical, but it is pretty close. Things can be accomplished faster than in the physical.
Shopping: Most of the Astral markets I have come across work by trading energy for items, this can be excess energy that is stored away specially for bartering or use as a currency. Unlike our banks the energy you store is not given out to others. While there are many ways to pay your spirit companion can explain what the local currency may or may not be.
Food: This can be similar to the physical plane, it can be delivered or picked up, but you should always be weary on who you get food from, and where. A good reason is just like you would not take a drink from a random stranger. There is food and drink out there that is too strong for human consumption. It can be like getting drugged if you are not careful. If you know the person giving you food or drink that is safer than not knowing. You can even grow your own food in your Astral home as well as breed some hybrid fruits and vegetables.
House Rules: These are important rules to be followed by your companion, but also by you. A standard rule is not inviting unknown spirits into the house. That being said, you should communicate with your companions if you are going to break this rule as well. House Rules are for everyone’s safety. That means when rules are broken consequences need to be had. This at no point means you strike your companion, nor them you. Instead, should be something like take away an offering for a time frame discussed between the two of you. This could start as simply a warning but could escalate if either party continues to break the rules. Rules should be added as your spirit family changes.
Energy Sensing: Energy comes in all variety from dense to light and everything in between. It can affect your other senses and be something you can smell or hear if you can not feel it. Do not worry if you cannot feel your companion immediately, your companion normally knows what they are getting into when it comes to being your companion. This is something you have to work on and grow with your companion. If you can not sense one you have a higher chance of not sensing any companions. In doing so you can run into having too many companions while trying to feel one. This can lead to neglect if you are not careful.
Companion: Your companion, if vetted properly, should know you are human and prone to error. This means they need to be as gentle with you as you are with them. If a mistake occurs your companion should not get upset but instead explain why it was a broken rule and how to avoid it happening again. You and your companion are partners and need to behave as such. Both of you need to talk about it. Communication is key to successful companionship. You and your companion need to be open to full communication as it is the only way that you both will be able to have a healthy relationship and growth.
Banishment: This is a healthy way of protecting yourself and your companions. Banishing is removing unwanted entities from your home using a variety of methods, the main ones being intent and energy banishment. Banishment is removing the entity from outside your wards both Astral and physical and not allowing it back in. While banishment is not fool proof it is a reliable way of ridding your home of unwanted guests. Unless aimed specifically at your companion banishment will not affect them or you are binding.
Offerings: Your companion should have given the conjurer a small list of offerings they prefer. These are gifts given from you to them to thank them for being your companion or helping you in some way. This can be drinks, lighting candles or other small tokens of gratitude. Some companions enjoy tea and can bond over different teas while with you. Offerings are given at a frequency you are comfortable with, or one you and your companion have spoken about. Offerings can be left anywhere but are normally on altars, tables, or other sacred areas. You can discuss with your companion how long an offering should be left out or go with your gut. Once an offering is done, it can be disposed of accordingly. Offerings are a wonderful way to show your appreciation to your companions.
Bonding: Bonding is something natural that happens between you and your companions. This normally starts at friendship and can move to deeper relationships. Bonding is as simple as including them in your day-to-day activities, doing things together or learning about their hobbies and interests just like humans, companions have likes and dislikes that make them who they are as an individual. Since companionship starts with a sturdy foundation, bonding with your companion is ever growing.

Overall, Companionship is extremely rewarding, filled with new adventures and fun. Being a companion is a big responsibility, but one that is full of love and hope. With your companion you will have someone who will be there for you no matter what is going on. Companions tend to be lifelong friends, or more. Just like being a friend takes effort so does companionship. Your companion will collaborate with you to strengthen and push you to be your absolute best. Whether it be helping with things like protection or helping you with a spell, your companion is there for you.
